3. Why do I need a referral to see Dr. Suzana?
A referral, in the most basic sense, is a written order from your general practitioner (GP) to see a specialist for a specific medical service. Referrals are required by Medicare most health insurance companies to ensure that patients are seeing the correct providers for the correct problems, and therefore entitled for a rebate.
However you do not require a referral to see Dr. Suzana if you do not want to receive a Medicare rebate or private health rebate.
